Music to share : with Matthew JL Thomson

So, so… it’s been a couple of weeks since my last post and I don’t really know why I abandon my blog each time… I really don’t like that and I hope that i’m coming back for good this time ^^

So I have some news. I’m starting a new project I called  »Music to share », The idea is to share a cover or an original song with other musicians ! So there’s one rule : No solo performances, and one objective : Sharing with friends our musical dreams and passion through a song… A project that I hope will allow me to meet new friends, discover new musical styles and of course enhance my skills. I’m very optimist and I think it will be a nice experience !

For the two first covers, I had the great pleasure of sharing good times with my dear friend Matthew Thomson. We’re in ramadan, 2 hours before L’ftour and we thought it would be the best way to say goodbye. In fact, Matt went back to Canada 3 days after the recording. It’s been 1 year that he’s with us in Morocco.

But, who the hell is Matt ? Matt is a 28 years old cool canadian guy. We first met at Casablanca’s American Language Center  where we’ve been working together on the ALC Music club development. The club was growing fast, our friendship too! We’ve shared great moments with all the friends, rehearsals, live shows, sound system’s problems 😀 … so many nice memories.

But, Matt is first and foremost a very passionate musician. If he defines himself as a bass player, he have never refused to play other instruments to help the other members of the club expressing their talents… Guitar, Ukelele, shaker and even singing. I’ve even discovered that he has a harmonica… Matt ! is it your hidden talent ??

Now that Matt is in his way back home (Visiting some European countries before flying to Ontario), I will surely miss the kind guy and the talented artist he was. but I’ll keep these two covers as a souvenir and of course his epic Fender Dobro he sold me before he left. Don’t care Matt, your guitar is in good hands.  And don’t forget that you’re welcome whenever you want, we’ll miss you here ! Keep rocking dude ^^

Cheers from Morocco !

ALC Music Club, the show must go on !

Publié le

I had a weird feeling this weekend not taking my guitar and driving my car to the ALC to join all my friends in the music club.
During these last weekends, Sundays’ music club get-together became some kind of a beautiful routine. Meeting these talented guys, talking about our favourite songs, rehearsing and living our love to music the best way we could… We really lived some very great days, experiencing how being a musician feels like. In a short period, we felt like musically growing up. Our last gig was just amazing, all the club members were great. Solo performances, duets, group songs, everyone was giving his best and the crowd make it so much better… At the end of the show, we were feeling proud about our performance but never satisfied, we all knew that we wanted more and better ! we were like  »Hey dear next session, come as faster as you can, we just can’t wait, we need to get together again and rock the ALC !
In one hand, we were a little sad when some of the members told us that they couldn’t be part of the club in the next session for different reasons, but i hope they will change their minds and continue the adventure… In the  other hand, seeing new people asking about joining gives us the strengh to come back and do the things we love to do again and again !
Matthew, Sonia, Hamza, Nawfal, Younes, Amine,Yassine, Kaoutar, Asmaa, Mohamed… see you soon guys, the show must go on !

A bearded wanderer designer just made his CV, and it’s F***ing original !

I think that there’s not big thing I could add ! Or maybe 3 little points, as i had the pleasure to work with Mr Mehdi Benaissa :

==> If you work with him, you’ll understand what the expression « Work up a sweat » is all about. When this guy is doing something, he gave 200%. Never tell him « come on guy, it’s not important, slow down » !

==> This guy loves graphic arts so much that instead of saying « What the f**k » he says « What the font » !

==> He’s such a  funny person . Even when he’s angry, he’ll manage to make you smile.

I think i’m gonna let you discover him more through this awesome resumee

Hey, i’ve just made it, here’s my CV… and here’s my number, recruit me, maybe ?

> Artiste tu as dit ?

Here’s my CV, here’s my number, so please, call me, maybe ? there’s a lot of other things to talk about !

Happy Ramadan everybody : 10 beautiful mosques around the world !

Ramadan is here, and it’s a great moment for all muslims all around the world. Everybody’s welcoming a month that I hope will be rich of great happy moments : loving and helping each other, sharing nice things, forgiving…and the most important of all, getting close to Allah…

I’m here today to wish you a happy Ramadan full of blessing and peace of mind. May this holly month brings us closer to Allah and our loved ones.

I was asking my self what could I share with you today, i tought about a lot of things before deciding to gather pictures of ten of my favourite mosques around the world. I may love them for their emotional weight in any muslim’s heart, for their history or their architecture…the reasons could be different, but what I’m sure about, there is a great chance you may love’em too ^^

So here’s my selection, ENJOY ^^

Al-Masjid al-Ḥarām, Mecca, Saudia Arabia
Surrounds Islam’s holiest place, the Kaaba which was built by the prophet Ibrahim. The « sacred mosque » is the largest in the world, it receives 4 millions muslims during the period of Hajj. The Kaaba serves as the common direction towards which Muslims pray.

Sultan Ahmed Mosque, Istanbul, Turkey
(Popularly known as the Blue Mosque for the blue tiles adorning the walls of its interior.)
It was built from 1609 to 1616, during the rule of the Ottoman sultan Ahmed 1st. Its architecture is a culmination of two centuries of both Ottoman mosque and Byzantine church development. As a symbol of majesty and splendour, The mosque has 6 minarets along with 8 domes and 1 main one.

The mosque is built in an artificial lagoon on the banks of the Brunei River at Kampong Ayer, the « village in the water ». It has marble minarets and golden domes with courtyards and lush gardens full of fountains

Hassan II Mosque, Casablanca, Morocco
Hassan II, the king of Morocco said « I want to build this mosque on the water, because God’s throne is on the water. Therefore, the faithful who go there to pray, to praise the Creator on firm soil, can contemplate God’s sky and ocean. »
His ambition gives birth to the 7th largest mosque in the world and its tallest minaret (210 m).
Inaugurated in the 30th August 1993, the mosque displays strong Moorish influence and the architecture of the building is similar to that of the Andalous’ Alhambra and the Great Mosque of Cordoba.

Malacca straits mosque, Malacca Island, Malaysa

El Oualidia…Sun, sand and sea !

flying bird sunset oualidia
It has been a while since my last article ! In fact, It was time for me to take some days of rest and tranquility to recharge my batteries, far away from work, internet, social media…

So I have decided to escape the stressful life of Casablanca and take the road of El Oualidia, a beautifully quiet city on the moroccan atlantic coast.  It’s maybe one of the rare cities where an astonishing calm lagoon meets the atlantic’s powerful waves.

I personnally appreciated this fisher’s town simplicity of life, its infinite fine sand beach, the view of fishing barks on the shore, the amazing sunset even if the weather was a little foggy and the richness of El Oualidia’s birdlife…feeling all this beauty while beeing in good company, you can say that you’ve just spent some great holidays !

So, here are some photos taken during the trip…You know, when you are facing the beauty of nature, you don’t need to be a great photographer, neither having a good reflex camera or some photoshop skills ! Juste immortalize the moment !!
